An English colonial bureaucrat builds an Indo-Saracenic monument to Queen Victoria. A rich Persian-Bengali Shia salt merchant constructs a colonial imambara complete with clocks made by the maker of Big Ben. A modern swami designs a magnificent monastery in honor of his guru, inspired by all the buildings he had seen on a world tour. All this history is along the river; sail with Antara in comforting elegance and learn about these incredible people and the worlds they made.

Day 1
EMBARKATION: 12:00 PM
ARRIVE KOLKATA, EMBARKATION – BANDEL (L/D)

Midday embark the ship in Kolkata. Welcome and safety briefing followed by lunch onboard. Depending on tide timings we will sail upstream past the city of Kolkata seeing the heritage monuments along the river including the Howrah Bridge and other iconic bridges towards Bandel.

Dinner & overnight onboard Ganga Vilas

Day 2
BANDEL – CHANDERNAGORE – BALLY BRIDGE (B/L/D)

A further sail brings us to the shore of Bandel. After breakfast visit the Hooghly Imambara, a famous Shia pilgrimage center that provides housing for pilgrims as well as classrooms. Return to ship and sail downstream to Chandernagore which was established as a French colony. Post lunch explore the colonial buildings along the promenade, including the former French governor's residence, now converted into a museum that features items depicting life during that period. Also, visit the Sacred Heart Church. Return to ship and sail back to Kolkata, anchoring at the Bally Bridge.

Day 3
DISEMBARKATION: 03:00 PM
BALLY BRIDGE DISEMBARK (B/L)

After breakfast visit Belur Math founded by Swami Vivekananda, a monk who was a key figure in the introduction of the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. The monument is notable for its architecture that fuses Hindu, Christian, and Islamic motifs as a symbol of unity of all religions. Return to ship for lunch. Thereafter disembark and transfer to the airport for onward journey.

  • The itinerary may be readjusted due to local conditions and days of the week, to avoid closure of monuments/museums. Last-minute sailing adjustments may also occur. The onboard tour staff will announce or post the exact time for each activity.
