The Itinerary

Arrive in Kolkata and transfer to the jetty to embark on the ship. Embarkation by 12:00 noon. Welcome onboard followed by the safety briefing and lunch. We will sail depending on the tide conditions below the iconic Howrah Bridge and see the city of Kolkata and the life on the banks of the river from the ship arriving by evening at Serampore

Arrive Kolkata, Embarkation – Serampore

Arrive Kolkata in the morning and transfer to the jetty to embark the ship. Lunch onboard. Thereafter a panoramic tour of the well-preserved British colonial buildings in Dalhousie Square; St. John’s Church, and the Victoria Memorial.

Serampore – Santipur

Post breakfast walk in Serampore, the erstwhile colony of the Danish East Indian Company. Visit the old quarters to see the Tavern, St. Olav’s Church, and other Danish heritage monuments. Return to the ship and sail onwards to Santipur. Post lunch, walk through the farms, banana plantations and view the village life of this quaint town.

Serampore

day 3

Santipur – Kalna

Sail further upstream to Kalna enjoying breakfast onboard. Walk through the morning local market which has resplendent produce and fresh fish. Walk further to the Rajbari temple complex. The Nabakailas temple contains 108 eight-slope-roofed shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Other temples in the complex feature diverse architecture and terracotta plaques depicting themes of Hindu epics and day-to-day life. Return to the ship by e- rickshaws. Later we sail upstream towards Mayapur arriving in the evening.

Lalji temple of Kalna, Kalna

day 4

Kalna – Mayapur

Morning, visit the Mayapur Temple. Commissioned by the Ford foundation, the dome of the temple is exquisite and imitates the Vatican. Its cerulean blues and gold glisten in the morning sun against the blues and greens of the river. Ride the country boat across the river to the headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Stroll in the pilgrim’s bazaar, meet Krishna followers, and visit the temple. Afternoon, further exploration in the surrounding areas.

Mayapur

day 5

Guptipara – Fulia

This morning sail to Guptipara. Explore the town visiting the Vaishnav temples that contain some fantastic terracotta hand carved tiles. Also, visit a potter’s home to see and interact with the artisans creating everyday clay items. Return to ship for lunch. Thereafter sail to the opposite bank and visit the weaving village of Fulia which specializes in a combination of Jacquard and Jamdani saree weaving.

day 6

Bandel – Chandernagore – Bally

Enjoy a morning sail to Bandel while enjoying breakfast onboard. Visit the Hooghly Imambara, a famous Shia pilgrimage center that provides housing for pilgrims as well as classrooms. The clocktower, which is centuries old has magnificent views of the majestic Ganges.

Enjoying lunch onboard, sail to Chandernagore which was established as a major colony by the French East India Company. Walk along the promenade that houses many old colonial style buildings. Visit the former French governor’s residence, now converted into the Dupleix Museum and the Sacred Heart Church.

Return to the ship and continue to sail towards Kolkata, arriving near Bally.

After an early breakfast, visit the Flower Market of Kolkata. Situated at the foot of the iconic cantilever Howrah bridge, it is touted as Asia’s largest. The hustle and bustle of the early morning make it a delightful and unique spot. Thereafter, drive to Kumartuli, a traditional potters’ quarter renowned for its sculpting prowess. If lucky, one can spot the entire process that goes behind making the ever-famous life like idols of Kolkata. Return to ship for lunch whilst driving through the colonial part of the city, a panoramic tour of the long-standing buildings from the time of the British East India Company. Enjoy a leisurely afternoon onboard for packing and bill settlements followed by a farewell dinner
