India’s second largest mangrove system. Staying in the park and cruising at a slow pace allows you to see the abundant flora and fauna all round you, such as the saltwater crocodile and over 320 species of birds.

Antara’s Catamarans, MV Bhitarkarnika and MV Mahanadi, are small, boutique vessels with two plush, well-equipped cabins, beautifully outfitted for comfort and fficiency. The Catamarans are especially designed for river cruising in the Bhitarkanika National Park, Odisha, the world’s second largest mangrove system.
Each is 17 metres long, 6 metres wide and can travel at a speed of maximum 5 knots. Besides the 2 cabins, each catamaran has, a lounge-dining area, a sundeck, kitchen, butler service and an expert naturalist on board to help you spot the wonderful flora and fauna of the region.

Antara’s Catamarans sail on the four rivers of the Bhitarkanika National Park: Brahmani, Baitarani, Dhamra and Patasala, in Odisha, on National Waterway 5. Guests cruise through the second largest mangrove forest in the world spread through the estuaries of the river system, spot crocodiles, hundreds of species of
birds, including 8 species of Kingfisher, turtles and more.

Guests fly to Bhubhaneswar, the capital of Odisha, and then drive for 3.5 hours to the embarkation point of Gupti.

Currently, Antara offers two itineraries:

  • Cruising in Bhitarkanika (3 nights and 4 days)
  • Amazon of the East (2 nights and 3 days)

The itineraries explore the mangrove forests by boat and on land, covering wildlife spotting, nature walks, local food tasting and more.

Our Catamarans are designed specifically to sail the waters of the rivers crisscrossing the Bhitarkanika Park and their tributaries. Our crew is experienced and skilful, and cutting-edge safety measures (life jackets) are in place to handle any eventuality or emergency. Covid 19 protocols, if applicable, are also in place.
